Just thinking … if you look closely at Off Topic comments, and notice a trend. Does that make the trend On Topic?

It comes to mind as I look at online courses while they are being taught and try to get a sense of the students.

  • Why did they all fail the same quiz?
  • Why did a student who was active on the discussion board suddenly stop submitting assignments?
  • How can the quantity and quality of discussion board posts differ so radically between sections of the same course?

Of course, these questions require further investigation. But, I’m thinking that I should look at the Off Topic discussion board as well as the On Topic board. I might see a trending item which will raise new questions. And, new reasons my company should support my efforts. (smile)
