No, it isn’t “thinking about design”.

It is a way to approach problem-solving when your goal is to discover new ideas or new ways of looking at old ideas.

I learned about this from Matt Montagne in a Classroom 2.0 webinar on 10/16/10.  Points I continue to ponder:

  • Instead of asking someone to list 10 things they like about a subject, ask them to list 100 things
    • As the list progresses, the “things” become more obscure and more expressive of their deeper feelings
  • A prototype is anything tangible that let’s us explore an idea, evaluate it, push it forward
    • “Prototyping is thinking with your hands” – David Kelly, IDEO
